What We Do

At Train of Thought, we help organisations move beyond traditional ways of working to achieve operational impact.
We bring together operators, infrastructure managers, and industry partners to co-create solutions that put customers first — from improving incident management and smarter planning to delivering more joined up, data-led service delivery.
We believe that every public transport decision should start with one question: what does this mean for the customer?
About Clare McClane

Train of Thought Consultants was founded by Clare McClane, a rail industry leader with over 14 years of experience in transforming operations to better serve customers. Clare’s career has been built on a clear belief: transport systems work best when they’re designed around the people who use them.
With a strong background in operational leadership, programme delivery, and stakeholder collaboration, Clare has led initiatives that have improved safety, performance, and customer satisfaction across some of the UK’s most complex rail environments. Her approach blends strategic thinking with a genuine commitment to making public transport more responsive, inclusive, and reliable.
How We Deliver

We deliver through a hands-on, partnership based approach that combines strategic insight with operational experience. Every engagement begins with understanding the people, context and pressures that shape performance – enabling solutions that are both practical and sustainable. We work alongside teams to translate strategy into action, using data, dialogue, and clear decision-making to drive measurable results. Our focus is on creating the conditions for confident delivery: joined-up thinking, accountable leadership, and a customer experience that reflects the quality of the operation behind it.
